About the Solene Silk Column Gown
We start with a bolt of mulberry silk satin, unrolled flat so we can read the grain before a single cut is made. The Solene is cut on the bias, which is slower and wastes more fabric, but it is the only way to get that column of silk to fall straight from the shoulder without pulling anywhere across the hip or the back. Inside, a structured lining sits along the bodice and waist, doing the quiet work of holding the shape so the outer silk can stay soft and unbothered. We finish every hem by hand, folding the silk twice so the edge never shows a raw line under evening light. It is a gown we made to be worn standing, sitting, and dancing without a second thought about the fabric. Once it is pressed and checked, we fold it into acid-free tissue and box it flat so it reaches you the way it left our cutting table.

Real silk satin against a synthetic imitation
What mass-produced satin gowns skip
Cheaper gowns are often cut straight-grain from synthetic satin to save fabric, which is why they pull at the hip or shine unevenly under light. The lining, if there is one, is usually loose and shifts as you move.
Why we cut differently
We cut the Solene on the bias from real mulberry silk, which costs more fabric but gives the gown its clean fall. The lining is sewn in at the panel stage, not added as an afterthought.

Does the silk wrinkle badly during travel? +
Mulberry silk satin does hold gentle creases, but they fall out quickly with a light steam. We include care notes on how to hang and steam it so it looks pressed for your evening.
Is the lining itchy or stiff against skin? +
The structured lining sits inside the bodice and waist only, and we finish its inner edge so it does not sit directly against bare skin at the seam line.
Can this be taken up or let out at a tailor? +
The bias cut is more sensitive to alteration than a straight seam, so we recommend our made-to-measure line if you need more than a small hem adjustment.
How should I clean it after wearing? +
We recommend dry cleaning only. Home washing can dull the satin's finish and stress the bias seams.
